One Day Made for You

Last week I posted about ways to deal with yourself during these days of the stressful political landscape that leads to the election. You know, of course, that this craziness won’t magically vanish in the hours after all the votes are tallied. You DO know that, right???

What will we do?

I like having a plan.

It doesn’t hurt to be prepared for those coming days and to devise a plan to survive what will probably be bizarre behavior and actions by multiple players. We need to hang on to our sippy cups and stay focused on maintaining our well-being. Along those lines, lets look at a few ways we can plan for in the coming days.

My plan aims to do at least one of each of these activities during a month to keep myself entertained and distracted. Keep in mind you can modify these things to best suit you and your lifestyle. You can plan events more frequently and do what works best for you; It’s flexible. Also, once you’ve tried establishing a “one day” routine to help you in the next month or so, you may want to expand your list by adding more activities or by having an activity appear more than once during any month.

It works best for me to keep this list handy when I flip the calendar over to a new month so that I can easily begin inserting these pastimes into my weeks.

Here’s what I include at least one of into my month’s appointments and engagements:

~Lunch with a friend
~No social media for 24 hours (you’ve heard me talk about “No Tech Days”)
~Spend several hours outdoors during one day; soak up that Vitamin D
~Try at least one new craft or project or a new form of entertainment. What will it be and how will you schedule it?
~Connect with a new acquaintance or person you’d like to know more about
~Plan to meet friends for breakfast one morning
~Schedule a dinner or movie night out with friends
~Plan one day of serving others through your church, civic organization, or volunteer group
~Cordon off one day completely to yourself
~Cordon off more days by yourself as needed

You can easily modify these items to match your own life. Plus, you can expand the list to include the whole month or plan to repeat the list every seven or eight days. It’s flexible. Make it work for you. You know I’ll be using that last item several times in the coming days and months.

P.S. – Stay tuned! Next week I’ll be sharing some fun DIY craft ideas (yes, we’re there folks – lol), to keep us occupied with activities that showcase our creativity and keep us calm at the same time.
